'관상어의 황제‘ 칭호를 가지고있는 디스커스의 어원은 디스크 즉, 원반을 닮았다라는 의미로 디스커스라 명하게 되었다고한다.
이 물고기는 모성애가 많고, 정이 많은 물고기로 알려저 국내외 열대어 매니아들에게 큰 사랑을 받아왔다.
이러한 특징들을 통해 작품에서는 사랑을 매개로한 연인, 친구, 부모와 자식 관계와 같이 '한 쌍'을 상징한다.
이 '한 쌍'의 의미는 어떤 두 사람의 관계에서 발생하는 모든감정과 수많은 사연들과 밀접한 연관이 있고,
감상자 개인의 입장이나 상황을 전제로 그때그때 순간마다 감정을 이입하고 대입하는 관점에따라 다각도로 해석되고 변화되며,
인연이란 무엇인가에 대한 의미를 되짚어보는데 의의가 있다.
Artist Statement
The discus, often referred to as the “emperor of ornamental fish,” derives its name from the word “disc,” as its shape resembles a round plate.
This fish is known for its strong maternal instincts and affectionate nature, and has long been beloved by tropical fish enthusiasts both in Korea and abroad.
Through these characteristics, the work uses love as a medium to symbolize a “pair,” such as lovers, friends, or the relationship between parent and child.
The meaning of this “pair” is closely connected to the emotions and countless stories that arise between two individuals.
Depending on the viewer’s personal perspective or situation, the work invites emotional projection and identification,
allowing for multiple interpretations that shift from moment to moment. Ultimately, it seeks to reflect on the meaning of human connections and relationships.
